A Street Collection permit is required on any occasion where money is collected in a public area of the city. We do not normally grant more than one permit for an area to be used by more than one collector at any one time.
Eligibility criteria
- The collection must be for a 'good cause'. This does not mean that the organisation has to be a registered charity. Individuals and local organisations may make applications and these are considered in the same way as applications from registered charities.
- Collections must not be conducted for personal gain.
- Applications from university/college committees from other areas are not permitted due to the sheer numbers which could prevent local organisations from being able to collect in their own city. Students may, however, collect on behalf of a charity if the charity has made an application.
- There should be one or more of the following links with Coventry:
- Organisations should have their headquarters or a branch in Coventry;
- The funds raised will assist people in Coventry;
- The collectors live in Coventry.
- Organisations who have previously held a collection should have submitted their returns within a month of the collection.
Application process
Applications can be made online using GOV.UK [http://www.gov.uk/apply-for-a-licence/street-collection-licence/coventry/apply-1].
It is wise to email the Licensing Team before you submit the application to check and see if your preferred area is not already in use by another collector on the date you wish to collect. You can email the team at Licensing@coventry.gov.uk [mailto:Licensing@coventry.gov.uk].
Also please provide details of where you wish to collect from in the city centre [http://www.coventry.gov.uk/downloads/download/5410/street_collection_areas_map].
The preferred site map needs to be uploaded as a supporting document with Gov.UK applications.
Your application will be processed within four weeks of the date you submit your application.
Tacit consent
Tacit consent applies. This means that you will be able to act as though your application is granted if you have not heard from the Council by the end of the target period.
Please note tacit consent will only apply once a full application has been submitted and you have received an acknowledgement.
