The Heritage Action Zones (HAZ) initiative aims to use the historic environment as a catalyst for economic growth in towns and cities across England. In these areas of need, Historic England will provide a combination of expertise, support and grant funding. For example; historic buildings that are deteriorating following decades of neglect will be restored for residents and tourists to enjoy; conservation areas will be improved to kick start regeneration; and the historic environment will be enhanced to help create attractive towns and cities - attracting businesses, and instilling a sense of pride in residents.
Coventry has been chosen as one of the first ten Heritage Action Zones by Historic England, the driving force behind this nationwide initiative. The city joins Appleby, Elsecar, Hull, King's Lynn, Nottingham, Ramsgate, Sunderland, Sutton and Weston-super-Mare.
Coventry Heritage Action Zone will be led by Historic England, Coventry City Council and the following local organisations: Historic Coventry Trust, Coventry Cathedral, Culture Coventry, Coventry & Warwickshire LEP, and Coventry University.
