What is Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)?

The term FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) refer to all procedures involving partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs for non medical reasons (World Health Organisation), there are four types of FGM. FGM is illegal in the UK and some other countries, and is a form of child abuse and in the same way as domestic abuse, FGM is regarded as an oppressive practice, an act of abuse against women, girls and children and a violation of their human rights.
