Care Experienced Parents

Our local offer

Having a child is a really exciting but scary time and we want to make sure that you have all the support you need with this. If you are a young person who has a child or is expecting a baby you will be able to access our local offer but we also have a specific parents offer tailored to you. This aims to be more specific to your needs.

Your home

Your Personal Adviser will work with you to identify the most appropriate housing option for you and your child. You will have priority banding on homefinder and may be able to bid on bigger properties - dependent on your child's age and need. You will have access to your SUHG (setting up home grant) until the age of 21 and until the age of 25 if agreed in your pathway plan.

Your relationships

We want to make sure that you have a wide support network, who are there for you and your child when you need them. We want to ensure that the people around you are helpful, supportive and safe. We can complete a referral to our Lifelong Links service for you and they will support you to reconnect with significant people in your life.

Your finances

When you enter your third trimester you will be able to access a maternity/paternity grant of £150. Your Personal Adviser will support you in applying for your Sure Start Grant of £500 and will help ensure you have accessed any savings that you are entitled too. In addition to this, you may also be able to access up to £50 for a one time clothing grant and will be provided with one of our 'Baby Boxes' .

Your identity

Your Personal Adviser can offer support to you to register your baby when they are first born - if this is something that you would like. We will also cover the cost of your baby's first scan and will ensure that you have photo ID.

Your health

Your Personal Adviser will support you to access support services such as the Family Nurse Partnership and Coventry Family Health and Lifestyle team. Your Personal Adviser can support you to apply for things such as Healthy Start vouchers and may offer you support to attend your midwife appointments.

Your education and employment

You may be referred to our Education and Employment Panel once you feel as though you and your child are ready for this. You will be able to access six months' free internet via the National Databank and this will help you look online for opportunities when you are ready. As well as this, your Personal Adviser will support you in applying/searching for School and Nursery provisions. They will also support you in exploring your maternity/paternity pay entitlements.
